Wrexham Athletes visit Mayor’s PalourOctober 13, 2013
13 Special Olympics athletes who competed at the 2013 National Summer Games in Bath were honoured to meet the Mayor of Werxham David Bithell MBE and Mayoress Virginia Bithell.
Steve Gittins, secretary of Special Olympics Wrexham Athletics Club, explained “Wrexham has always been very supportive of the Special Olympics movement and this was a chance for all our athletes who represented Wales to have their achievements recognised by the Mayor and Mayoress”.
The athletes took a tour around the Council chamber as well as meeting the Mayor and Mayoress in his parlour for light refreshments and an introduction.
Athlete Laura Watson (pictured – front right, white t-shirt) said, “The visit to the Mayor’s Parlour was brilliant. He and the Mayoress made us feel very special and asked us about Bath. Then they told is us the history of all the things in the Mayor’s parlour which was fascinating.”
The visit took place on 3 October 2013.
